A shocking youth message

Watch this video and try to reflect on your faith.

Recently I have viewed this and not at all that I am shocked. I agree with a lot of things that He said. Although for some, he may be misunderstood and perhaps disagreed upon (just reading comments on youtube). And, at some point I may not understand some of his points, like the statement "continuing to repent," which may sound like Salvation is lost when we sin or backslide after being a Christian. But I believe that's not what he meant, for he never said it. He explained further, that if you are a genuine Christian, when we sin, God makes a way for you to get back to Him. But if you are truly not saved / not a genuine Christian, then we are still imprisoned by sin.

Perhaps I could explain this on another point. One of which I have observed is that we mostly forget when witnessing or leading a person to Christ that they should willingly, personally receive Christ to be their Lord and Savior. And the word most often left off is the word "Lord". Sometimes Christians focus only on the word "Savior" which means One who saves and leave the word "Lord" which means Master, King or Leader, the One of which we ought to obey and follow. Almost the same with repentance. When we repent, we turn our back to sin and turn towards God or Christ and follow Him. And to be a genuine Christian, one must make that decision and a decision of Faith that should change our life. And other than that decision, is God's omnipotent power to change life. (Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9)

Another thing is, when we talk about Christianity. Christianity is also about having a relationship. A relationship toward our God. In John 1:12, it says that if we receive Christ, we are given the power to become sons and daughters of God. It's a relationship that a Christian should not only recognize it but live it. Just as on how we relate to our parents or siblings, so should we relate to our God. The only problem, as the speaker may be talking about, is that when we receive or pray the sinner's pray but don't really recognize or have not really made that binding relationship with the One whom we pray to. Praying the sinner's prayer is not a formula to be saved. It's a personal statement that comes from the heart and professed by the mouth of which declares who should you be now, a Christian. (Romans 10:9-10)

One of the raised problem too is when we doubt. I too doubt at times, but I do not look towards the time of which I prayed, but I look to my relationship with Christ. And remind myself that Christ has been there for me always, and that He had and still is my Best Friend, my Father, my God, my Savior, my Lord, my Master and my Everything. And that reminds me of who I am to God and God to me.

Considering also the speaker's audience, i believe they are foreign, of course :-) ... I just really don't know what do they believe in context of the Christian Faith and the gospel. But as for Filipino Christians? Hmmm?? I believe our faith is still intact as a Fundamental Baptist, although I also believe, compromises are starting to creep in. Just as technology rises increasingly fast, so is the Word of God easily twisted and make diverse confusion of the Christian faith. These are the times of which the call for Christians to stand on the Faith and on His Word is much greater than ever. Jesus Christ is our Foundation, the Solid Rock and the Word of God as our witness of the Faith. Though Christ is in heaven, God has given us His Word and His Holy Spirit to guide and teach and preach the Truth. And the only truth we can only depend on.

Surely, we are in the age of which a lot of things are proclaimed. Many profess they are truth and that they have truth. I remember Jesus Christ saying about these things.

Matthew 24:5
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And, by this, stands a warning. A warning for His people to be alert and be watchful. Sadly most often, we aren't. We are too busy with other things. Security, fame, power, money creeps most often in our mind forget our God, the God, Who made the stars, feeds the birds of the air and watches over us day and night. Surely, this is a tragedy for Christians who no longer struggle in following Christ but simply go on the flow of the world.

This is just perhaps a reminder to ask "What do we stand for as a Christian?" and therefore we must go to His Word, know it and live it.

Busyness and the great need...

For in a few moments there I had to ponder... It's been years I have been in the same church and doing the same ministries I am able to handle. Previously I was a Sunday School Teacher, an Ambassadors for Christ officer, a choir member and an AWANA leader. But back then I was simply a student still free to do things. Right now, I'm an employee in a known local newspaper and still giving some time helping out in AWANA ministry and the Choir ministry. Still attending the AFC observing and looking after the new young generations of young people.

Can't help but see time passes bye and realize things. I have been in the church for so long continually trying to disciple young people and helping them out to learn to disciple others as well. Discipling young people has been my desire for a long time, my heart's delight, but right now, as the church is currently in the theme of "Witnessing", somehow I had to look at my status on how well I have been winning souls for the Lord. And, I see my self lacking of it. I'm not saying I haven't been able to witness to any person but simply lacked much of effort or zeal of doing it. I do believe that we are commanded and should be part of witnessing, but it seems this is one of my weaknesses. The one thing that bothers me is the fact that most often many struggle in this area due to a lot of many factors (i think). Not everybody seem to have the gift of sharing things so easily especially to a complete stranger. It is a good thing though that there a lot of ways and methods that has been presented as by way of being able to share the gospel, like the AWANA ministry. It gives a portal for Christians to share the gospel to kids and train them. Cantata presentations are also one by which choir members can be part of witnessing to other people. Through songs that they sing and the preaching of the pastor, the gospel can be heard by unbelievers. But when it comes to sharing the gospel to our friends and love ones, it makes another whole new level or situation. It takes a lot of courage and much prayer I believe.

This time, it makes me wonder, with so much busyness, i can't seem to really figure out how could i even share the gospel with those close to me; friends, co-workers and other relatives. I sometimes would want to know whether am I really in the right direction or not? So much question remains in my mind like "Why give so much time in the church, when there is currently a great need to go out and share the gospel?" This is just one example of questions I have in mind.

Recently I have been able to be with my fellow elementary batchmates, which really challenges me to seek the salvation of my fellow batchmates. The problem? my time and my priorities. My co-workers too seem to be wanting that I go with them on certain activities. Their activities are not bad or evil and if I also would like for them to know Christ, then I must do something. Problem? Still time management or perhaps activity management.

All through out the week, 24/7, I see myself much busy in the church. Why? because I see the need of helping. And perhaps a problem? Only few see the needs. Only few would commit. Only few would give lives. If only all the church members would take part, how magnificent would it be. But it seems this doesn't often happen at all. Here we are learning a lot, but so few do it. I really wonder, pondering.... too much needs...

Well, for some reason from time-to-time we Christians should really review our priorities and also perhaps the circumstances we are in. And truthfully there's a lot of factors affecting our management of our priorities. Unorganized plans, abrupt decisions and useless activities most often destroy efficient and effective priority management. Wisdom, i believe is what we are lacking. Great wisdom from God is what God's people need. Discernment of what does God desires and separating it from our own desires. And, most importantly, that we obey and follow it. Oh how I wish we Christians have that kind of attitude, where we can discern and know God's heart & desires at the same time we obey. We Christians have to seek God's will, continually depending always on Him and learn to obey Him.

Truly, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Ambassadors for Christ

by Dennis Valles, edited by Roldan Caroy /to be published for "The Salt" newsletter

Ambassadors for Christ or AFC, is a regular fellowship for the young people every Saturday evening, with the members averaging from high school & college young people. The history of how this was organized or how it started is basically unknown or un-informed to young people of this generation. But seemingly its goals and objectives still remain throughout the years.

The programs of the AFC continue to vary and as decided by the current officers, the program is in this order: First Saturday of the month, birthday celebrants are recognized and given some tokens, with regular fellowship; Second Saturday, film showing with group discussion; Third Saturday, Cell group handled by Ptr. & Mrs. Geru Sardina or kuya Dan and ate Janice, each group handled according to their own genders; Fourth Saturday, Special Saturday or Special Event, unusually being done within the AFC fellowship.

Each Saturday, a bible quiz is also rendered for the purpose of motivating members to keep on reading God’s Word, the foundation of our Christian Faith, emphasizing also the need to know our Bible, especially in times of needing to share it to unbelievers. To motivate members to read the Bible is of course, giving a price or token to the winner of the month, with a special discount for the upcoming KESWICK 2009 on December.

Last February, the MBFFBC-AFC has been held at the Baguio Baptist Church. The young people of the Metro Baguio Churches had their fellowship in a form of a game based from the known “Amazing Race”. Many young people joined and enjoyed this activity. It was tiring, but through it, different young people got to group and know each other. Another Metro Baguio – AFC fellowship was held last April at our church, Loakan Baptist Church. The main theme of the fellowship was centered on God-given talents and Ptr. Abraham Bigornia was the speaker. Only few churches were represented, due to some communication problem. Although some problems occurred it was a good learning experience and also learned a lot from the message given. Last July, the AFC had a food/dinner fellowship, remembering the month of nutrition. The young people really enjoyed the food with of course not forgetting to digest God’s Word as well.

Being the current President, it is a challenge leading and helping young people to grow and it is truly hard. With the current number of the AFCers of 12-22 and several inactive officers, due to other personal priorities, it is a sad thing to note this. But, also encouraging it is to note, that still some young people and officers continue to be faithful, attending and doing their part in this fellowship. It is my hope and prayer that the young people will grow, not only in numbers but also in our individual spiritual lives. By this, I also ask that the church pray for us, that we may continue on and grow for the sake of the next generations to come.

As for me being the president, my hope is to be able to fulfill my duties, especially to continue this endeavor, setting our focus only on our God and living as an example to be Christ-like, representing Him as Ambassadors for Christ.

For the Boyz Upgraded

Well? the "For the boyz" fellowship is not actually upgraded or something. I just needed a different title for this new post. :)

But anyway, previously, just before the month of August was to end, the old boyz re-united with some older boyz (us of course) held another "For the boyz" fellowship.. Get it? held last August 30, 2009 at the former-place of manong Jerim. It was a busy night for me, since I had two appointments by that time, the For d' boyz fellowship and the meeting of my fellow batchmates from the Loakan Elementary School days. Well at least the meeting was done just exactly enough for me & ars go to the For d' boyz fellowship.

It's quite refreshing seeing some old faces I know at the golden age era :) The time where our big brothers in the Faith reigned as leaders and such. hehehe! There were just few of us that night. The elderly brothers if I might name them would be: manong Jerome, manong Jephun, manong Gary, manong Jake, and much more elder manong Julius (first time i think). The younger but old (i presume) would be me, joffer, charlie, rap, scheff & kirk (i wonder if I forgot someone). Aron had to go earlier that time, so he missed the food & the fellowship.

At the time of our arrival, they were already there talking and laughing, such as the good old days, and as always, guys talk. The food is almost ready, so bro. Jops, who initiated the fellowship, instantaneously asked me to start a program. Argh!!! as always an impromptu program, which perhaps I am really getting used to, on informal occasions only. But never to be on formal occasions. For some recent "For the boyz" fellowship, i don't recall sharing messages between the elders and the young, but only food fellowship & guys talk. So out of the blue after singing and such, I started to announce the sharing time thinggy. I believe there is some good if guys seriously talk. Cause when we do, we really do mean serious talk. But, I had to take the first step on sharing, a principle i learned throughout sharing things. If you want others to share things to you, you must start sharing as well. Just remembered, this principle is found in Luke 6:31 "Do to others as you would have them do to you." As it rotated going towards the elders they shared a great deal of experiences, especially life abroad and a few family-man & newly married-man advices. :)

They shared the longingness and them missing the fellowship we've had before, with the other elderly young people. They also shared the struggles one Christian would have to face especially when you are taken out of the life you are used to. And of course testified, that our spiritual life and seeking God should be our priority, for once we neglect this, all things just becomes non-sense or perhaps vain. As Solomon says "Vanity of vanities. All is vanity!"

It's a wonderful blessing to hear those words, and a heart-warming indeed. Hopefully, we all learned a great deal on what they shared. To be cherished and ingrave it on our hearts and perhaps soon, new generation will hear us also share messages and advices that will warm their heart as well. :)

A Glimpse in the Music Ministry

Music is one factor of which makes life pleasurable or enjoyable. It’s one that makes our every mood or atmosphere pleasant. And in the Christian realm, it’s a tool that often teaches us, reminds us, encourages us and enables us in our every day life. And perhaps, that’s one reason why we have a ministry called the “Choir”.

The Choir Ministry or Music Ministry is one of the departments of the Loakan Baptist Church, assigned to minister or serve through sharing special numbers or Cantatas. Whose goal is to reach to unbelievers and believers with songs inspired by the Word of God and the Christian Faith.

Start of January, acting as the current Music Director, with the assistance of Bro. Jasper Lamsis, the preparations for Easter Cantata is at a delay. I had to think of what’s next and asked God for His leading. Through prayers, I have earnestly sought for what God desires for me to do especially with regards to the presentation of the Easter Cantata. By February, God lead me to make a collection of songs asking several people to help with the presentation. Our choir practices for the Easter Cantata started by the mid-month of February, simultaneously preparing also for every Sunday special numbers. Several groups like the Men and Ladies of the Loakan Baptist Church were asked to present some songs included in the Cantata, and asked my father, Huberto Caroy, to preach the Gospel as part of the Cantata presentation, focusing to lead unbelievers to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

By April, with almost approximately 2 months of practice, the Easter Cantata was held. We knew the practices wasn’t enough, and all we can do was to simply depend on God on how it would come up. We had to pray and focus mainly on sharing God’s Word especially the message of salvation through songs. The Easter Cantata was entitled as “The Message.” And indeed, God has answered our prayers. Hearing feedbacks that souls responded to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior is a satisfaction that God had indeed answered our prayers and made our labors not in vain.

After the Cantata, I continued to pray and sought what God’s will is regarding the music ministry. My desire has changed and sought to pass the leadership to Jasper Lamsis, Christian and Lyndon as assistants; a desire to teach / train others to become leaders according to their own talents and strengths as well as their weaknesses, as God instilled in every Christian believers. But before passing the leadership, the Choir had to be organized, and by the month of May we elected several people to be in position, was presented to the Church and prayed for.
To re-affirm the members of the choir of their commitment to the ministry, a commitment form was passed and to be signed as an indication of ones dedication to the choir ministry, reminding as well the goals and the responsibilities. About 23 individuals committed as member of the choir for the year 2009 – 2010, but due to other personal activities and priorities, some can not actively participate. The choir continues to be open for membership as long as one will agree and commit oneself to follow the agreed rules and guidelines, putting in mind the responsibility of being one.

To edify and train choir members, they were sent to seminars and workshop, such as the MusiCAMP 2009, hosted by the Christian Artists Ministries Philippines Inc., held here in Baguio City, and another musical workshop held at the Victory Baptist Church. With these trainings and learning opportunity, they are trained and enhanced to continue to glorify God through using their God-given talents and sharing their knowledge as well.

Other than re-organizing the choir, another group was formed, named as “Christians Committed to Christ” or known as “C3”, formed by young people with the same passion towards music and serving God through it. The C3 was originally formed to make the members be more affiliated to the name of Christ, more than to be affiliated with a name of school, from which they were grouped to be part of a singing club, or a chorale. More than to make known the name of their school, they desired to make known and represent Christ with their singing.

Almost half a year, all these things have transpired within the music ministry, unexpected but God-glorifying. And as I continually seek God’s wisdom and guidance, truly He’s been faithful enough to lead the way, and I continue to be a witness thereof. Hopefully, as months or years passes bye, the new generations will also see or have a glimpse of how awesome our God is.

Where are they?

Reading on the book "Boy meets girl" by Joshua Harris, i've encountered a chapter or perhaps chapters talking about godly men and women whom we can talk to about particular issues, making them as our accountability partner/s, prayer partner/s and/or counselors. Looking at Josh's examples, it is indeed wonderful and a blessing to have some godly men and women in our lives especially as we live our daily Christian lives. But it hits me! Here in our place & time added with the culture of Ibalois, are there godly men and women of whom we can seek advices and counsel? hahaha! perhaps yes... but i presume so few. And even so few, not too often we approach them for guidance, because of a lot of factors and reasons.

It is sad to think and for me to picture such a situation. Growth, maturity and wisdom of Christians seems to be of no essential nor even emphasized the need of it. It may be emphasized amongst churches, but personally living it out, so few are challenged and are willing to undergo it. The willingness to grow and acquire wisdom that comes from God and to live a godly life, seem so frightening to others. It's just as the same as Christians fearing to commit to something or being fully commited, esp. with regards to the Christian ministries / services. So few want to commit; so few want to stand up; so few wants to live simply as a genuine Christian.

I believe I have some ideas of what are those fear, cause i too have had it. The fear of knowing a lot of things about God also means a greater burden / account / responsibility you will have.

Luke 12:48 (King James Version)
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

But the truth is, as Christians, we have already committed to something and that is one thing we shouldn't and can never backed down of. That is simply being a Christian. Christianity is also a commitment. The moment that we have received Christ as our Lord and our Savior, means we have committed our lives to make Christ as our Lord, our Master and Someone Whom we ought to follow. The only problem is on our part.

I remember this verses:

Matthew 26:41 (King James Version)
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

Galatians 2:20 (King James Version)
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

The thing is, God wants us to surrender all our life to Him, laying everything that hinders us in serving Him and letting God have full control over our lives. But most often, we reserve a part of us to ourselves or don't even want to surrender everything to God. This is the most common problem Christians have or struggle each one is having.

But in all this struggles, Christians should be motivated to grow and desire a godly life for a lot of reasons as well. One would be the benefits of wisdom of God offers. There's a lot of benefits of having wisdom that no money can buy. If you want to know what are these? just look at Solomon and read the book of Proverbs. If you too would read Psalm 1, herein we could see how blessed is a man whose life is God-centered. Reading Psalm 23, we find that a child of God has a Good Shepherd, Who takes care, protects, nourishes & provides everything needed by the sheep, that is God's people. But perhaps an enough reason why Christians should press toward a godly life, is God's Love and God's Grace. If only Christians understand how awesome and amazing God's Love and Grace is; if only Christians can see how precious it is in their lives, I'm sure one can easily be motivated by it. It is enough reason to motivate a person. The only question now is, have we really seen how great God's Grace and God's Love is in our personal lives? It is by this question I hope Christians will consider to go forward, pressing on toward the price. Knowing how magnificent His Love and Grace is and have great meaning to us. And, therefore perhaps, people will see God's awesome glory in our lives.

"Not even a hint"

Interesting book...

"Not even a hint" by Joshua Harris talks about something most often we people don't even talk about. We usually sometimes neglect this stuff or stay away from it. That is about "lust". Yes, "lust"! And, all the things that are related to it. In the Christian realm, definitely this word has been a secret struggle not only to boys, but among girls as well, as been discussed inside the book.

As I look to it more.. it also talks about God's standard for man, especially for Christians. It redirects or re-sets our focus towards Holiness. But also reminds that our righteousness comes from God's Grace, by which He sent His Son to die for us making a way for us to be saved. Having understand and realize the great impact of Grace towards us should be enough to motivate us to keep on going.. struggling and never give up.

Leadership

Leadership, a word too broad for me to talk about. Too much to say but too few to put it on writing. There’s so much I have in my mind with this word. But I can narrow it to one word, that is “lead”.

I believe there are different ways or methods of Leadership. Or there are different ways on how to lead. Some lead in power, some lead through fame. Some lead with influence, while other lead in authority. Some lead because they are in position, and some lead, perhaps the best, because they are leaders. But the thing that I like most is leadership that comes by the example of the heroes of the Bible. Yes, there are lots of leaders who lived and died, some remembered, some we don’t and forgotten. Some are well known because of what they’ve done and accomplished. But the Leaders of the Bible, are known because of God. Not because of what they have done or accomplished but of what God has accomplished through them.

It’s indeed interesting there’s so much difference on leadership of how man displays, as to the leadership God displays. Leadership of man speaks of self-glory and self-proclaimed victories and such, whereas the leadership of the heroes of the bible displays God’s glory and God’s awesomeness, very distinct and very far from each other. Here is a gap and can see so much differences amongst it. And if I have to make to differ about it, I can perhaps show some. And let me categorize it as Leadership of the world and Leadership of God.

1. Leadership of the world focuses more on power and authority, while Leadership of God focuses on serving and humility.

2. Leadership of the world focuses to seek benefit of their own, while Leadership of God focuses on others.

3. Leadership of the world focuses on self-abilities, whereas Leadership of God focuses on depending mainly on God.

These are few things I may say about the differences. There may be more.

Far more than these, there are a lot of things I may share about leadership, as it is indeed a continuous learning experience. As we lead others and those before us, to a destination we all hope to be and accomplish.

In my experience, being a leader wasn’t exactly a one-day training, or one day job. In other words, experience has taught me much about leadership. Every failure had become a stepping stone to do things better on the next. And every victory serves as a reminder to maintain it and not give it up.

At first, leadership was not in my mind, I’d rather be on low profile mode or something. But it seems people place me to it anyway. I’ve always known, I don’t have all the capacity of knowing everything and having all capabilities, but I do recognize that each individual has its own capabilities and/or skills. Everyone has a gift in doing something and doing it at its best. And so far I try to make use of that knowledge. Trial and error is also has its benefits. It may hurt to have error, but the most important? You learn.

Hmmm? Just remembered the Lakers of the NBA and what Phil Jackson told Kobe before. “You can’t lead them, if they are not ready to follow you.” (If I remember it right) It’s an interesting statement, almost the same when talking about character of a person. When we talk about character, much is really said. Character is one of the most important things when it comes to leadership. I believe it’s one that magnifies the capability and the effectiveness of one becoming a good or even a great leader, for a character tells whether a man can be worthy of following or not. It’s indeed hard to follow someone who is hard to trust, or someone who is not faithful, or does not stand by his / her own word.

Indeed, leadership is about leading a certain group towards a certain goal, and making sure that it can be met. It’s a hard work and requires a lot of learning to become a leader. I’m not the best of it, but it’s certainly a good goal to be one.

Worship & God’s Standards

For a time being, I’ve been trying to debate to myself whether God has a standard on how do we Worship Him. Truthfully, each individual or even every group, as I see it has their own standard of worship or perhaps their own ideal kind of worship. Just looking at other denominations, we would see others jumping up & down, lifting their hands above, and that’s how they worship. And in honesty, I respect that, but I prefer still a solemn kind of worship. Somehow I think culture & traditions change our perspective on how we worship God. And I tried to look back to God’s Word for this matter and it pointed me to the story of Jesus at the well with the Samaritan Woman.

John 4
19"Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." 21Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

Herein, we see the place of worship of the Samaritans and the Jews. The Samaritans worship on a mountain, as the Jews worship in Jerusalem. But see how Christ responds to the Samaritan Woman. Christ declared that the Jews have indeed know Who they worship and acknowledge that Salvation has been passed through the Jews and that the Samaritans do not know whom they worship. Yet, Christ said the place of worship is nevertheless will come to a point that it has no value. Reason? Because God is seeking people who worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. It’s not about the place or perhaps even the method of how we worship, but it’s our heart truthfully right with God worshiping Him through the Holy Spirit. It’s not about HOW we do it right but it’s about OUR LIFE REFLECTING WHO WE WORSHIP and our heart being RIGHT WITH GOD, then our mind should be also right affecting our actions and how we worship God. It’s a chain of cause and effect that it begins with the heart. But if the heart is not right with God, then probably one can not truthfully worship God at all. And, definitely how we act or respond in our every life situations reflects what kind of a heart we have. It would definitely be a bad picture if one who says he worships God, yet his life show God has no part in every decision he / she makes. Now the question now is, “How is our heart, our life and our relationship with the Living God?”

Change

As what they say “change is the only permanent thing in this world”. Things are really changing. And sometimes expectations are not always met.

It’s quite a long time I haven’t written anything here on my blogsite. It may just be that I have nothing more to say. But perhaps little things irk me to write. Changes I watch and see occur in every part of our lives. Surroundings as well are changing. Sometimes makes us feel uncomfortable or perhaps astonished.

Things always get me to wonder of the future. What it holds? As I continue also to watch and think of the present. My present situation and other matters that matters: spiritual things, as well as physical things. At the present, I’m currently not on a stressful mode or stressful week, as compared to previous months, busy on some kind of projects. Simply just watching and waiting for any thing God might want to lead me on doing. It’s kind’a… actually boring at this time. But as I have prayed for a couple of weeks ago, I made a decision, hopefully God’s leading; the passing of the torch. Well, I’m not sure really, but I believe it is time, as God leads me to make it happen; Trusting the new generation to do their part, as I and other older young people have been laboring, hopefully to also see the fruit of all the things that has been done.

From my youngest age as a young people of Loakan to my oldest age as one, it has been indeed an adventure. Things unimaginable and perhaps unexpected as well, a period of excitement and a period of battles too. I only hope that the enjoyment I’ve had as a young people, the new generation might also experience. But as for the battles, I can not hope it will go away from them, but hope that they can conquer and overpass it. But of course, not everybody will face the same things but certainly they will face a challenge for themselves. For challenges, trials and testings are what make us stronger in our Faith. I can not say it was an easy road, but it helps to know we are never alone.

As I wonder, what might challenges will they face? I don’t know. These times are different. Things have changed and more change is to come. We see a different world, and most often we see a world that neglects God and doesn’t even acknowledge His presence; a world full of physical things and a world where man is the center of it. Of course my battles have not ended yet, for I still live in this wretched world. I’m still a soldier of the Lord, standing for the Lord. I just hope I could be faithful to the end. And I hope the next generation will do too.

Ephesians 6:10-13 (New International Version)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Heroes of the Faith

Here is a good song i like... and I think this is the lyrics... not sure though..
If anyone wants to correct it.. please tell me... and I will make the correction.. :)

Heroes of the Faith
by Legacy Five

I first met you as a singer when I was just 16
You took the time to share with me the reason why you sing
You said the roads not always easy but God is ever true
You said just share the good things that He has done for you

You became my hero of the faith, soldier of the cross
Singing out the grand old story, Jesus saves the lost
And now it's time to lay your armor down and pass the torch
But you are a hero of the faith, soldier of the cross

I just got the news this morning that you had slipped away
It's seem my heart was broken it couldn't end this way
But Then I saw with spirit eyes the entrance you must have made.
Running to the arms of Jesus fin'ly home to stay

With other heroes of the faith, soldiers of the cross
Singing out the grand old story, Jesus saves the lost.
And even though you've laid your armor down and passed the torch
You are heroes of the faith, soldiers of the cross

Now it's time to lay your armor down and pass the torch
But you are a hero of my faith, strong soldier of the cross

A Message From God through Dr. Charles Stanley

Here is a good message. Check it out while the week hasn't passed yet.

The notes of the message:

Confronting Conflict

1. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a discerning spirit
2. Maintain a quiet spirit
3. View the Conflict as coming from God
4. Ask the Holy Spirit if and where you are at fault
5. Forgive the person even if they're totally wrong.
6. Ask God to show you His purpose for allowing it.

"Conflict is inevitable. Your response is a choice. Our response is our responsibility."

The Frontline Testimony

For quite some time, I have been really in a place what we may call “the frontline” in the spiritual battle of the Christian life. As young as I am (ows?), I’ve seen a lot of things already and experience a lot too. But doesn’t mean I know everything about life, for I know my years haven’t ended yet. God gives me more years to live and to face more challenges and trials in life. I also have to admit not every challenge I have faced I have conquered nor every test I’ve succeeded or passed. I too have failed at many areas in my life. It just feels so strange and mysterious how certain things and circumstances are in life. Things I have to go through. Things uncomprehendable and unexpected, but after these, it builds who you are at present.

There is much to say about being in the front line, and a big question lingers my mind. “Why do many Christians fear to be in the frontline?” But perhaps I’ve answered some reasons why. But being in the frontline doesn’t only talk about trials or challenges. It also talks about Power and Miracle God gives, or God’s Grace and Mercy He provides. It also talks about growth and strength in every day of our lives.

I remember Jasper asking me or telling me about how I look like so stressed out person (maybe more like looking nutcase) at the time our Easter Cantata draws nigh. But adding up another statement saying, “isn’t it that, that makes life not boring?” Well I have to agree with that. Truly every time I face a challenge, I feel like hanging on a cliff just giving all my strength to survive and hoping to be able to get up in an instant. But unlikely just hanging on a cliff, it was a very long, long, long hard and strenuous hanging on a cliff, just enough to make you feel to let go and give up. But after such a trial / challenge, after the rain, indeed the sun shines again. After a long dark tunnel, emerges the end of it and light starts to show forth beauty on whatever we see.

And I think, it’s just right for me to say, it was not my own doing. God has His great part on how I ever emerged from every challenge. If I would share some insights on how I see “The frontline” one common thing I see would be, “it definitely makes you feel alone”. Although even knowing that someone or many people may be at your back, it would still be different if someone will be facing it by your side. But most often, I believe no matter how we face challenges, there will always be that feeling of loneliness of facing it. It’s strange how that is. But every time I think or feel this way, that’s the time I have to go to God. Kneeling and begging for His mercy and grace, giving all up to Him. It kind’a reminds me of Christ that night when He had to come to the Father and pray, begging the Father to take away the cup of suffering He had to bear, but not His will but the Father’s will. It’s amazing that even the Son of God had to come to the Father and pray. How much more should we as His adopted sons and daughters? Christians as we call ourselves.

There is nothing much we could do but actually lay down our lives and completely trust in God everyday of our lives, every moment and every hour. Totally depending on Him no matter what the circumstances or outcome we face. Strangely enough after the storm, you might be surprised on what happens every time the storm ends.

Night of Shame

When a Korean and a Filipino meets, truly there will be differences. Sometimes those differences may lead to shame. Hehehe! It was an interesting but shameful for me to have such an experience, encountering this Faithful Korean (I think). It has been for quite some time that this Korean guy had been attending the church, enough to recognize me.

Sunday evening, this Korean guy came very early or perhaps just early enough to be on the right time (supposedly the time the evening service should have started). But, we waited further for others to come. When the program started and was now on testimony time, I made my move on sharing first to break the silence (as always); Then, Mommy Torres. After which, pastor asked this Korean guy to share something about his faith. At first, he was apprehensive to talk, but then he did talk. One thing that struck me was that, he said that at their church, they have to be at church 30 minutes early before the service starts, or else they will have no seats left.

What a bold and true statement coming from a Korean. Ouch! That would be perhaps the response of anyone who has heard that, including me (definitely). But my most embarrassing moment would be the night of Wednesday, wherein I was rushing to go to Church for Prayer Meeting. Then I suddenly come across him along the way going to the church. Him leaving the church, whereas, I was still going to the church. He did recognized me then muttered and asked me if I was going to the church. “Yes”, I said. Then he looked at his watch mumbled some words I didn’t understand. I simply said, “We have practice for the choir.” Then he said, “aaaahhh!” Then we parted ways.

But as I turned back away from him, I knew I was embarrassed at that point. For I knew, I was late for Prayer Meeting. Hahaha! Yes indeed. I’m not that all-out faithful or something. I too have my own weaknesses, my own sins. I was actually not planning to be early going to Prayer Meeting, unless I was really assigned to be the song leader. I always am busy doing other things. But then, I knew I was supposed to be early.

Hmmm??? A trait of a Filipino? I don’t think so for we are Christians. But sadly we give in to our own difficulties. With that shameful act, I somehow debated within me. A debate between flesh and spirit I presume. As we always do in every decision that we make; to obey or not to obey. Truly the greatest enemy of our Christian life is our self. I have to admit; I reasoned enough, saying I was too tired and can’t be always on time. I reasoned that I had to do some things first. One of my fellow prayer partner said, he is personally having some struggle in the ministry; saying there is no more joy in serving in the ministry. Well, I too have to admit, I had the same feeling. I knew what he was talking about. The burnt out Christian, sometimes, it’s just easy to just quit. But I know, what’s the purpose or benefit on that? This just proves I have much more to learn and much more to grow in the realm of my Spiritual life. And still, that Korean guy stands as a rebuke against me. Makes me really wonder, how great their desire and thanksgiving on the God Who so loved them and gave His life for them. And how I wish many more Filipino Christians are like them, in their ways of giving much importance on what God has done for them. In that way, perhaps the fire inside my heart will grow bigger than just a spark of the dying light.

Love Priorities

Before the season ends, let me share something about love. :)

Recently I’ve heard a pastor preached about this topic. Although every time he preached, I’m disturbed by what he preaches, perhaps because at some point, I don’t agree with some of his points. One of his messages talked about this “Love Priorities” and I think one of his text verses are from Matthew 22:34-40. From what I get and what I don’t agree with him, is plainly stating that there are three main love priorities one Christian must remember, when I believe there are only two, stated from the verse itself. His points are: First, one whom we should love first is God, which I agree with. Second priority would be God’s representatives, which I kind a find difficult to see or understand. Then third priority is God’s people. Whereas, what I believe is simply first: God as our main Love of our life as Christians. Secondly is: Others, loving them the way we love ourselves. That’s the bottom line. Period.

How he defines God’s Representatives are those who are in authority over us; parents, teachers, pastors, presidents, etc. I do understand that we all should love these people, but to rate and to measure one’s love over another seems absurd to me. Or to choose them over someone who is lower in rank seems really ridiculous. I believe its non-sense in the Christian realm and God’s Principles. One of the arguments made me really think is when he placed a situation where your mother and your son is at a life-death situation wherein you must choose between the two. He pointed out that the mother should be the first one to be prioritized rather than the child, because the mother is God’s representative. Hmmmm??? Really made me debate within my own mind from all the things I’ve learned, it doesn’t make sense. If I am wrong then perhaps it’s best to give me more Biblical insights ‘cause I remember some verses that would go against the principle.

As I have said from the verse Matthew 22:34-40, there is only two points or say two Love priorities. First: God. Second: others. That’s it, no additional or subtraction. I believe the problem here is, how do we define LOVE. The first point, loving God is definitely one hard thing to do amongst us Christians. For our love can never be compared to the way God loves. God’s love is unconditional, while we love conditionally. We may love unconditionally but that kind of love mostly comes from God. Or I mean its source comes from God Himself, because God is love. Sometimes how we show our love to God seems to be impossible. Definitely it is. How can we love Someone like God. From I Corinthians 13, we find some products or fruits of love or manifestations of what we call love. But if we place God as an object of our love, it makes a different situation. The question “How do we become kind to God?” or “How can we be patient to Him?” Seemingly human as we are it’s hard to imagine putting the object of our love would be “God”. But still we are commanded by God to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. And how do we do this? John 14:15

John 14:15 (King James Version)
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Obedience is the only way by which we can really show our love to God.

Second point: Loving others. Loving others is more probably a possibility to be applied and can be manifested. But perhaps the manifestation of this differs and may vary according to our own conditional thinking and feelings, ruled by our own will and decisions. But to love unconditionally, like our God is something extra ordinary or perhaps divine.

I would like to site the story of Hosea, who loved a woman who is known to be a prostitute. God commanded Hosea to love this woman, according to how God loves Israel at their times. But the real hardest thing to do is to love even if the other has betrayed that love. The wife of Hosea went back to her old ways but God said to Hosea to love her back. And so Hosea did and took her back with a price. That’s the picture of God’s love. And indeed God’s love prevailed even with Israel turning back on their God. God also judged Israel and gave Israel punishments but still He is willing to love them again.

Hosea 3:1
[ Hosea's Reconciliation With His Wife ] The LORD said to me, "Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes."

Now this kind of love is definitely rare and perhaps not commonly found amongst Christians today. This kind of love doesn’t look at the rating if you are to be loved or not; whether you are at highest position or not; or you are older or younger; But simply you love, the way God loves. I believe, rating who should be loved first amongst others, is not the kind of love God is teaching us or showing us, for love gives, even if it means giving your own life. So the question if placed in a situation where you need to choose between your mother and child? Hopefully God would not let me be in the kind of situation. But if I’m really been placed in such? Perhaps it will depend on the wisdom God gives me.

Rez Valdez

Yo! guys! check out what I found at Youtube!

Its Rez Valdez and he's now old... but still has good songs! :)
Love his songs, and i wish i could learn how to play it in guitar. hihihihi!
Definitely his songs were one of the great Tagalog Christian songs I've ever heard.

Tupang Ligaw

Buhay mo’y tila parang kulang

Koro:
Kayamanan at lahat ng kalayawan
Wala pala itong kabuluhan
Kung si Kristo ay wala sa iyong buhay
Para kang isang tupang ligaw

AD LIB
Sa bawat sandali darating at papanaw
Buhay moy’s tila parang kulang

(ulitin ang koro 2x)
Para kang isang tupang ligaw
Para kang isang tupang ligaw

The Evil Days!

There are two things I have in mind for now. One I may have already shared it earlier and the other is a new one I’ve just encountered recently. Let me start off with the new one.

As some of you read the news from Yahoo site a few days / weeks earlier, or heard from news programs, atheists are now spreading their advertisement throughout Italy, Spain and Britain talking about their own concept / philosophy and trying to persuade other people about God’s existence. It’s quite alarming but it’s also a sign and fulfillment of God’s Word.

2 Timothy 3:1-7
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The advertisement (if I remember it right) states “There is probably no God, so stop worrying and enjoy life.” Recently as well, I was given a DVD disc containing some kind of a movie or perhaps a documentary video talking against the belief or religion of Christianity, although I did not view it all but just the introduction. Simply from the introduction in itself, the philosophy of thinking about self is being established and encouraged; my desires, my dreams, my goals... in other word a self-centered idea or principle. Although this philosophy have been here for a long, long time, it may have just started to influence and perhaps recruit others to have the same philosophy, principle, and practice.

But God’s Word has already warned Christians of these things that even professed Christians can be drawn by it. Unless Christians have forgotten it and have not take heed of it. Be warned and be careful for these events are the reason why God’s Word or Christ or Apostle Paul warned us.

Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

The principle to love self more than God is definitely the human flesh principles. And, it’s far from the principles of God. Here is where a “line is drawn”. Professing Christians must decide whom to follow. Will you continue to follow Christ, who died on the cross for us all, or will we be like the wife of Lot who looked back at Sodom and Gomorrah?

The second one I wish to share is about Obama becoming the new President of United States. This is not an old story, as I have shared past posts about it, but anyway, it’s also an alarming event in History for me. I’m quite astonished at how people respond to this event. It seems Obama is so great that he can influence the whole world. It just hit me. I wonder if Obama is the anti-Christ? Seeing his platforms, his ideas and principles, it is totally far different and not aligned to God’s ways and principles. Of course, I don’t know. But seeing how one person can affect and create a world-wide hope. That is something I don’t see every day. Although as I have said, I’m not saying that he is. But perhaps I can take it as another sign of that coming day.

By these things, the spiritual battle heats up and for Christians to stand firm on their faith for the evil days are here.

Ephesians 6:13

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The Irony of Ironies

The Christian Realm has a lot of ironies. How ironic it is that the common man can’t seem to understand.

The irony of our Salvation maybe one, as God requires nothing more of us to be saved, but to simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. By God's grace and through one's faith, one is saved (Eph 2:8 & 9). Basically, this is one ironic belief if one compares it to other religions or beliefs, as most religion requires to do something, to earn salvation. Be a member of this, do this and that, and other things that entails one personal act to earn one's salvation. But God’s Word proclaims the other way. As Ephesians 2:8 & 9 explains that the gift of Salvation is a gift God gave, and it is by only receiving this gift through faith that we attain Salvation. Not by works. And, if by so we do expect works to save us, Christ laying down His life is worthless and of no use. God’s Word says that without shedding of blood, there is no remission (discharge or relinquish or release) of sin (Heb. 9:22). This is the gift God gave and it’s for man to receive it or not, accept Christ or reject Him.

One of the ironies, man may never accept is God lifting up the meek and the humble. The world declares that the strong shall survive and the weak to be left out. The one who has power, possession & fame shall attain greatness. But God declares that the one who is the greatest in His Kingdom shall be the servant of all (Mark 10:44). The first shall be the last and the last shall be the first, truly an ironic philosophy or principle of God, but only to man’s own knowledge and understanding, for the foolishness of God is the wisdom of men.

1 Corinthians 3:19 (New International Version)
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";

But perhaps the saddest irony in the Christian realm is not because of God, but because of man who profess Christ as his Lord, Master and Savior. One who claims to have a Great and Magnificent God yet his life shows no sign of the Master’s hand. One who claims that his God will provide, yet worries too much for his everyday needs. One who declares God is his strength, yet in times of trials and temptations he falls and have no heart to get up.

But certainly the greatest irony of all these things perhaps, is that even from our failures, weakness and iniquities, God continues to give grace, fulfills His promises and is willing to forgive.

1 John 1:9 (New International Version)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
